Anyone who think that analogue photography has had its day and no longer has anything to offer should think again.
With Multigrade FB Classic, Ilford has brought forth a new black and white fiber-based paper with a variable contrast emulsion. It replaces the Multigrade IV FB Fiber, which since its introduction in 1994 has been popular with photographers and artists as well as specialized laboratories.
The new Multigrade FB Classic distinguishes itself in many ways compared to its predecessor, Multigrade IV FB Fiber. The new exposure times are not only shorter and have a better gradation, it also has a visibly higher maximum density. In addition, it has been possible to improve tone reproduction across the contrast range. The images are now clearer and sharper than ever before. The rinsing times have also been reduced. The new Multigrade FB Classic now only requires a quick rinse. Particularly pleasing is the fact that a better reaction to the vast majority of toning processes has been achieved, this also applies to selenium toner. The double-weight fiber base has a basis weight of 255 g/m² and will deliver 7 full grades of contrast from grade 00 to grade 5. The contrast can be purposefully controlled using color filters during exposure. The final images are characterized by classic Ilford image properties. Multigrade FB Classic yields deep blacks, brilliant whites, neutral image tones and fine gray reproduction under all viewing conditions. As always with Ilford, you can count on a consistently high-quality product!
Multigrade FB Classic is available in most common sheet sizes as well as role format with the following surfaces; 1K (glossy) and 5K (matte).
